This grooming reel is an aftermarket component for the LS460 machine. Purchased in either standard width or buffalo width and then use the spacers provided and some of the blades on your purchased reel to convert this groomer into a verticutter.

This setup makes the LS460 the ideal machine for all year round use, perfect for controlling thatch which reduces scalping when your lawn gets too thick, assists with controlling your HOC, reduces potential for disease and aids in making your lawn more resilient and healthy.

This assembly can also be used for sprigging by easily removing both stolons and rhizomes which can be scattered under a layer of top dressing on an area that needs planting.

Grooming

Grooming is done to remove thatch in the upper layer of the grass to improve its condition. Thatch is a layer of living and dead compacted leaves, stems, roots, and other organic matter that is right under the grass you can visibly see.

Once the heavy thatching is removed, the plant is stimulated to develop new growth from the true plant crown. The lateral growth of the turf is minimised, and the new growth is more vertical. This ultimately redesigns the turf canopy, opening it to allow for improved water penetration, soil gas exchange, and a drier environment, reducing the likelihood of leaf disease.

Verticutting

The verticutter’s rotating blades or tines penetrate the turf vertically, cutting through the thatch layer and loosening compacted soil. This process helps to improve air circulation, water penetration, and nutrient absorption in the soil, promoting healthier grass growth and reducing the risk of lawn diseases.

Regular verticutting is an essential part of lawn maintenance, especially for lawns with heavy thatch buildup or compacted soil. It helps to rejuvenate the turf, promoting lush, green grass growth and maintaining a vibrant, healthy lawn appearance.
